BROWN DEER, Wis. - After two days of competition at the 2009 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center, the UW-Eau Claire women's and men's swimming and diving teams are in third and fourth, respectively.

In the women's competition Eau Claire held its third-place position with a score of 402. La Crosse has 542 and sits in first, while Stevens Point is second with 486. Whitewater is in fourth with 250, Oshkosh is fifth with 161 and River Falls has 107 and is in last place.

The men dropped back one spot for fourth with a total of 252 points. Stevens Point is in first with 655.5, La Crosse is in second with 457 and Whitewater is third with 349.5. River Falls is currently in fifth with 133 and Oshkosh is in last place with 126.

The Blugold women recorded three third-place finishes today. Angie Bakula (So.-Appleton, Wis./West) and Kirsten Lickel (Fr.-Madison, Wis./East) both picked up NCAA Division III provisional cuts in their third place finishes. Bakula took the third place spot in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:55.53 while Lickel was third in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:32.51. Megan Lindner (So.-Muskego, Wis.) was also third with a time of 59.64 in the 100-yard butterfly.

Peter Schultz (Sr.-Oakdale, Minn./North) was the highest finisher for the Blugolds on the men's side with a fifth place spot in the 100-yard breaststroke. He finished with a time of 59.36.

In the relays, the Blugold women finished third in the 800-yard freestyle with a time of 7:48.93, a Division III provisional qualifying time. The men finished the event with a time of 7:09.14, good enough for fourth. In the 200-yard medley relay, both the Blugold men and women finished fourth with time of 1:37.62 and 1:49.66, respectively.

Saturday will be the final day of competition for this year's WIAC Championship. Events will get underway at 10 a.m.
