Thu, May 23, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Swimmers & Divers In Third At WIAC Championship Posted: Thursday, February 19, 2009 BROWN DEER, Wis. - After one day of competition at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center, the UW-Eau Claire men's and women's swimming and diving teams are in third place out of six teams. For the men, Stevens Point is in first place with 285 and La Crosse is in second with 247.5. The Blugolds accumulated 156.5 points and Whitewater is fourth with 155. Oshkosh is in fifth with 73 points and River Falls scored 57 and is in sixth. On the women's side, La Crosse is in first with 309 points while Stevens Point is second with 212 and the Blugolds scored 180 for their third place spot. Whitewater is in fourth with 112 points and is followed by Oshkosh with 68. River Falls is in sixth with 65. Angie Bakula (So.-Appleton, Wis./West) recorded the Blugolds' highest finish of the day, taking second place in the 500-yard freestyle. She swam to a time of 5:04.77, just three seconds behind the top finisher, Lindsay Lukes of UW-Stevens Point. A season ago Bakula finished in sixth place in the event with a time of 5:21.22. In the men's one-meter dive, Bryan Dykstra (Sr.-Racine, Wis./Horlick) was unable to defend his crown, taking third place in the event with 441.90 points. Blugold diver Ken Ritt (Jr.-Racine, Wis./Horlick) finished right behind Dykstra with 423.80. Dykstra had previously won the one-meter dive the last two seasons. Freshman Phillip Devine from Oshkosh took top honors in the event with 491.45 points. Two other Blugold women took fourth place spots today. In the 200-yard individual medley, Kirsten Lickel (Fr.-Madison, Wis./East) finished with a time of 2:09.54 for the fourth place finish. Megan Finley (So.-Waunakee, Wis.) ended the 50-yard freestyle in fourth with a time of 23.98. Last year she took seventh in the event. The women also recorded two third place finishes in relays while the men took fourth in the same two events. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the Blugold women finished third with a time of 1:37.19 and the men took fourth with a time of 1:26.38. In the 400-yard medley relay, the women finished with a time of 4:03.36 for a third place spot and the men were fourth with a time of 3:33.69. Tomorrow the Blugolds will be back in action for day two of the three-day WIAC Championship. Events are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. - KM - |
