Sat, May 25, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Men's Basketball Ready For Home Finale Posted: Monday, February 16, 2009 EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - The UW-Eau Claire men's basketball team is prepared to take on fourth-ranked WIAC opponent UW-Platteville in its final regular season game at Zorn Arena on Wednesday. The Blugolds have found success at home this season, posting a 7-3 record. On the season, Eau Claire owns a 14-9 overall record and a 7-7 mark in conference play. Eau Claire is a much improved team this season. At this time last year, the Blugolds held a 11-13 record on the season and was 5-9 in the WIAC. As a team, Eau Claire averages 75.9 points per game and holds its opponents to 72.8 points. The Blugolds shoot nearly 50 percent from the field and pull down 34.3 rebounds per contest. Individually, Eau Claire boasts three double-digit scorers. Dan Beyer (Sr.-Waukesha, Wis./Catholic Memorial) leads the team in points with 14.2 per game, as well as rebounding, grabbing 6.9 boards. Beyer ranks 12th in the WIAC in scoring and third in rebounding. Ryan Shea (So.-Duluth, Minn./East) sits at 16th in scoring with 13.9 points per game, while ranking 5th in the conference in steals with 1.65 per game. Junior Geoff Probst (Moose Lake, Minn.) drops in 10.9 points per contest to go along with his 7th-ranked 5.8 rebounds. Platteville enters Wednesday's contest with a 20-3 overall record and a 12-2 record in the WIAC, good for second place. Head Coach Paul Combs earned his 100th victory at the school with a 69-53 win against UW-Superior in the Pioneer's last game. Jeff Skemp leads the team with 19.1 points per game, which is second in the WIAC. Skemp is also tops on the team in rebounds with 5.8 per game. Wednesday will also be senior night for the Blugolds and is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. - CL - |
