Thu, May 23, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Men's Tennis Goes 3-1 Over The Weekend Posted: Saturday, February 14, 2009 EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - The UW-Eau Claire men's tennis teams competed in four dual meets in two different states this weekend and finished with a 3-1 record. In Decorah, Iowa, the Blugolds took home two 8-1 victories over Cornell College and Loras College on Saturday. The Blugolds also faced St. Olaf in Rochester, Minnesota on Saturday and finished with a 6-3 win while they lost 8-1 on Friday to Carleton College. The Blugolds now improve to 7-3 on the season. In Iowa Eau Claire swept Cornell in singles play while they lost one match at No. 2 doubles. Against Loras the Blugolds swept the doubles competition and won all singles matches except at No. 1. Dirk Van Rybroek (Fr.-Madison, Wis./Edgewood) gave up the fewest amount of points in his two No. 4 singles matches. He won 6-0, 6-1 over his Cornell opponent and also took a 6-0, 6-0 victory over his Loras opponent. David Kelley (Fr.-Green Bay, Wis./Ashwaubenon) and Willie Lutz (Fr.-Ellsworth, Wis.) gave up the fewest amount of points in doubles play with an 8-2 win over Cornell and an 8-3 victory over Loras, both in the No. 3 spot. In Minnesota, the Blugolds faced stiff competition both days and were only able to come up with one win Friday but finished with six Saturday. On Friday Eric Wollum (So.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) and Chris Thornton (So.-St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham) were the only Blugolds to win at match, taking a No. 3 doubles victory 8-4. Saturday Eau Claire finished with two doubles wins and four singles victories. Steve Lantz (Sr.-Rochester, Minn./Century) and Lars Olson (So.-De Pere, Wis.) each played close No. 1 and No. 2 singles matches, respectively, but ultimately came up with wins. Wollum allowed only five points in his 6-1, 6-4 triumph at No. 5 singles. The Blugolds will be back on the tennis court next week for three away meets. Friday Eau Claire will take on Green Bay and St. Norbert in Green Bay while they will face Lawrence University in Oshkosh on Saturday. - KM - |
