Tue, May 21, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Men's Track & Field Takes Second In Stevens Point Posted: Saturday, February 7, 2009 STEVENS POINT, Wis. - The No. 9 UW-Eau Claire men's track and field team took second place out of 15 teams at the Eastbay Invite hosted by UW-Stevens Point Saturday. The Blugolds scored 131.50 points, finishing just behind host and first place finisher UW-Stevens Point, which scored 207.50. The University of Minnesota-Duluth took third place during the invite with a score of 102. In the 18 events that took place, the Blugold men had seven finishers in the top three places, with four of those being first place finishes. Chris Wirtz (Jr.-Weston, Wis./D.C. Everest) took first in the 5000-meter run with a time of 14:52.97. In the weight throw competition, Sam Johnson (Sr.-Deer Park, Wis./Amery) finished first with a throw of 19.31 meters, the longest throw in NCAA Division III so far this season. When it came to the pole vault competition, Nick Desotelle (Sr.-Weston, Wis./Schofield D. C. Everest) vaulted to the top spot with a height of 4.45 meters while the men's 4x200-meter relay team crossed the finish line first with a time of 1:31.86. The men's 4x400 meter relay team finished in second with a time of 3:21.99, missing the first place Stevens Point team, which finished with a time of 3:21.91. In the mile run, Adam Flyte (Jr.-Fort Atkinson, Wis.) crossed the line in a time of 4:19.94 with the first place finisher coming in at 4:19.88. In the shot put, Tim Lauer (Jr.-Whitewater, Wis.) took third pace with a distance of 14.74 meters. The Blugold men will lace up their shoes again next Saturday against UW-Platteville in Platteville.
