Thu, May 23, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Men's Tennis Shuts Out Ripon & St. Mary's Posted: Sunday, February 8, 2009 EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - The UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team picked up two wins in dominating fashion today, beating both Ripon College and St. Mary's (Minn.) 9-0 at the McPhee Physical Education Center. With the two victories, the Blugolds move to 4-2 on the season and 4-2 in dual meets. Ripon drops to 0-2 on the year, while St. Mary's falls to 1-2 overall. Against Ripon, Eau Claire singles won in straight sets in all five matches played, losing just 11 games total. On the doubles side, the Blugolds won both their matches by scores of 8-1. The No. 6 singles match and the No. 3 doubles match were both won by default. Lars Olson (So.-De Pere, Wis.) took the No.1 singles match 6-2 and 6-1, while No. 3 seed Brett Burleigh (So.-Verona, Wis.) and No. 5 five seed Matt Hambidge (Fr.-St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham) each posted a shutout in their respective matches, winning 6-0, 6-2 and 6-1, 6-0. It was much of the same for the Blugolds against St. Mary's, winning each singles match in straight sets, and giving up just 12 games in those six matches. The doubles teams were equally successful, winning all three matches by a 24-5 margin. No. 1 seed Steve Lantz (Sr.-Rochester, Minn./Century), No. 3 seed Chris Kuna (Fr.-Edina, Minn.), No. 5 seed Eric Wollum (So.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) and No. 6 seed Burleigh posted a shutout set in each of their respective matches. On the doubles side, the No. 3 seed Mike Olson (So.-Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine) and Dirk Van Rybroek (Fr.-Madison, Wis./Edgewood) recorded an 8-0 shutout. The Blugolds are back in action on Friday when they travel to Rochester, Minn. to face off against Carleton College (Minn.).
