RIVER FALLS, Wis. - Leading throughout the first 30 minutes of the game, the fifth-ranked UW-Eau Claire women's basketball team was upended late by WIAC opponent UW-River Falls, losing tonight 69-63.

The Blugolds struggled offensively tonight, shooting 34 percent from the field in the first and second half. The Falcons didn't fare well in the first half either, shooting just 33 percent in the first half, but they turned it on in the second half shooting 52.4 percent to put the Blugolds away.

River Falls started the game with a slim lead through the first nine minutes. A three pointer from Heather Witt (Sr.-Kendall, Wis./Royall) gave Eau Claire a 13-12 lead at the 10:44 mark, which they would keep for the remainder of the half. Heading into the recess, the Blugolds had a 31-25 lead.

The start of the second half was much of the same for the Blugolds, as they kept a lead through the first 10 minutes. At the 9:48 mark, the Falcons took the lead on a Lauren Pellowski three and never looked back. Eau Claire played from behind the rest of the game and was outscored 31-23 in the final nine minutes to give the Falcons the stunning upset.

Jodi Lindner (Jr.-Neillsville, Wis.) came off the bench to score 16 points in 20 minutes to lead Eau Claire. Katie Weinberg (So.-Dresser, Wis./St. Croix Falls) chipped in with 12, while the Blugolds' big three of Witt, Heidi Arciszewski (Sr.-Thorp, Wis.) and Hannah Mesick (So.-Chatfield, Minn.) were held to just 26 points combined on eight-of-29 shooting.

Five Falcons reached double-figures with Jenna Hanson leading the team with 13 points.

Eau Claire hits the road again for a non-conference matchup against the University of South Dakota tomorrow afternoon. The game was rescheduled from its original date of December 20 and is set to begin at 3 p.m.
