Sun, May 26, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Men's Tennis Splits In Iowa Posted: Saturday, February 7, 2009 CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team competed in two meets today, defeating Monmouth College 9-0 this afternoon after falling to Coe College 9-0 earlier in the day. While the Blugolds were unable to get anything going against Coe, they bounced back to sweep Monmouth. Lars Olson (So.-De Pere, Wis.) and Chris Thornton (So.-St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham) each allowed only two points at No. 2 and No. 6 singles, respectively, defeating their Monmouth opponents 6-0, 6-2. Chris Kuna (Fr.-Edina, Minn.) picked up a win at No. 4 singles with scores of 6-1, 6-2 while Steve Lantz (Sr.-Rochester, Minn./Century) won in the No. 1 spot 6-2, 6-3. Phil Loprinzi (Jr.-Rochester, Minn./Mayo) defeated his opponent 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3 and Eric Wollum (So.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) recorded a victory after his opponent forfeited due to injury. In doubles play, Lantz and Loprinzi scored a victory in the No. 1 spot, 8-2, while Olson and Kuna won 8-4 at No. 2. Thornton and Aaron Johnson (So.-Andover, Minn./Elk River) also won 8-4 at No. 3 doubles. The Blugolds are now 2-2 on the season. Tomorrow Eau Claire will be back in action with two home meets. Eau Claire will face Ripon College at 9 a.m. and will take on St. Mary's University at 3 p.m. Both will take place in the Ade Olson Addition of the McPhee Physical Education Center. - KM - |
