Please include a source of proof (newspaper, yearbook, etc.) to support your claim. ![]() Mon, Feb 17, 2025 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Men's Hockey Is Edged Out By Third Ranked UW-Superior Posted: Friday, February 6, 2009 SUPERIOR, Wis. - After dropping its last two games, the UW-Eau Claire men's hockey team lost a 6-3 game to northern Wisconsin rival and third ranked UW-Superior tonight. The Blugolds remain in seventh place in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association with a record of to 3-8-1 and 13-9-1 overall. The Yellowjackets, who are third in the USCHO Division III Men's Rankings, move to 9-1-2 in the in the NCHA and remain in first place, while improving to ?18-2-3 on the season after winning its last game 5-2 against Lake Forest last Saturday. In the all-time series against the Yellowjackets, the Blugolds drop to 33-69-4 after losing a close game at home earlier this season 2-1. In the first period, UW-Superior struck first with Andrew Mackenzie scoring at goal at 11:19 to give the Yellowjackets the lead. In another 13 seconds, Superior's Tyler Fletcher scored another goal to put the home team up by two at the end of the first period. In the second period, Superior's Seth Reda struck again for the Yellowjackets at 6:35 to give them a three-goal lead. Eau Claire's Nic Weight (Fr.-Eagle River, Wis. /Northland Pines) put the Blugolds on the board first with an even-strength goal at 11:08 with assists from Tyler Romasco (Fr.-Perry, Ohio) and Tyler Weigel (Jr.-Madison, Wis./Oregon) to put the Blugolds back within two goals at the end of the second period. In the third period, Superior's Chris Wilson kicked off the scoring with an even strength goal at 9:04 to give them another three-goal lead. Joe Bluhm (Jr.-Red Wing, Minn.) then scored a short handed goal at 10:17 with the assist from DJ Clark (Jr.-Blaine, Minn./Spring Lake Park) to put the Blugolds back within two goals. Superior then scored off of a power-play with Eric Bausano scoring at 11:09. The Yellowjackets' Tyler Fletcher scored Superior's sixth goal of the night at 15:46 while Eau Claire's Ross Janecyk (So.-Grand Rapids, Mich./Catholic Central) scored the Blugolds' third goal of the night at 19:37 with assists from Skylar Christoffersen (Jr.-Langley, B.C./Brookswood) and Romasco to make the final score 6-3 in favor of Superior. Tyler Brigl (Jr.-Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) did his best in goal tonight, but added his another loss to his record this season between the pipes for the Blugolds, recording 42 saves on the night and playing 60 minutes. Superior's Chad Beiswenger added another win to his record and ended up with 33 saves. On the night, the Blugolds were outshot by the Yellowjackets tonight 48-36. This was the third time this season the Blugolds were outshot. The Blugolds will pack their skates for Duluth, Minn. tomorrow as they will face off against St. Scholastica.
