Thu, Jun 20, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Swimming & Diving Split At Whitewater Posted: Saturday, January 31, 2009 WHITEWATER, Wis. - The UW-Eau Claire women's swimming and diving team defeated UW-Whitewater while the men came up short against the Warhawks today. The Blugold women scored 138 points as the Warhawks came away with 89. The men fell short with a score of 108 to Whitewater's 134. The women finished with six top spots in individual races as Nicole Dorvinen (Fr.-Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) took two by herself. In the 1,000-yard freestyle, Dorvinen finished first with a time of 10:49.76, almost 20 seconds ahead of the rest of the field. She also finished more than five seconds ahead of the rest of the field in the 500-yard freestyle as she took first in a time of 5:19.31. Megan Lindner (So.-Muskego, Wis.) won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.73 and Casey Preissel (Fr.-Wisconsin Dells, Wis.) took first in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:17.50. Megan Finley (So.-Waunakee, Wis.) and Bethany Matula (Fr.-Kimberly, Wis.) were the other two Blugolds to earn first place spots with Finley taking first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 55.05 and Matula finishing on top with a time of 1:11.02 in the 100-yard breaststroke. The Blugold women also swept the relay competitions with a first place finish in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:54.95 and a victory in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:44.45. The Eau Claire men also had six individual first place finishes with Ben Macalalad (So.-Wausau, Wis./East) earning two. In the 500-yard freestyle, Macalalad finished with a time of 4:58.22 to take first and also won the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:13.91. The Blugold men swept the diving events as Bryan Dykstra (Sr.-Racine, Wis./Horlick) took the top spot in the 1-meter dive with 245 points and Ken Ritt (Jr.-Racine, Wis./Horlick) scored 250.10 points in the 3-meter dive to earn the victory. Matt Schultz (Jr.-Oakdale, Minn./North) and Jacob Grambling (Fr.-Brookfield, Wis./East) also won events with Schultz taking first in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:06.52 and Grambling winning the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:05.17. Eau Claire will now host a diving meet on February 14 before heading to the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships, which are scheduled for February 19-21 in Brown Deer at the Schroeder Center. - KM - |
