Men's Basketball Ready For First Place Pointers

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - Following a 76-73 win over UW-River Falls on Saturday, the UW-Eau Claire men's basketball team prepares to play fourth-ranked UW-Stevens Point at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Zorn Arena.
The Blugolds are 9-6 on the season and 3-4 in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. Eau Claire has had much success at home this season, winning six out of seven contests. The Pointers are 13-2 overall and have a perfect 7-0 record in conference play.
Offensively, Eau Claire is led by Ryan Shea (So.-Duluth, Minn./East) and Dan Beyer (Sr.-Waukesha, Wis./Catholic Memorial). Shea is averaging 12.8 points and 3.26 assists per game, while Beyer is averaging 12.7 points per game to go along with a team-high 6.1 rebounds. Geoff Probst (Jr.-Moose Lake, Minn.) and Colin Boone (Jr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) have started all 15 games for the Blugolds and have made solid contributions throughout the season. Probst enters Wednesday's game averaging 11.1 points and 5.3 boards per game, and also shoots a team-high 85 percent from the free throw line. Boone shoots 55.6 percent from the field and averages 10.8 points per game, as well as a team high 3.86 assists per contest.
The first-place Pointers are led by Matt Moses and his 14.7 points per game. Four other players are averaging double-digits this season. Pete Rortvedt averages 13.6 points to go along with a team-high 5.8 rebounds per game. Guard Khalifa El-Amin averages 12.4 points and has dished out a team-leading 59 assists, while Louis Hurd averages 12.1 points and Bryan Beamish averages 11 points per contest.
