Men's Hockey Looks To Stay Hot At Home
Posted: Thursday, January 15, 2009
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - The UW-Eau Claire men's hockey team will play host to Northern Collegiate Hockey Association rival UW-Stevens Point this Saturday at Hobbs Ice Center. The Pointers and the Blugolds will face off at center ice at 7 p.m.
The 12-5-0 Blugolds are in a three-way tie for fifth place in the NCHA with a 2-4-0 record in conference play. Eau Claire holds the position with 8-7-1 UW-River Falls and its 11-5-1 upcoming opponent UW-Stevens Point. Although the Blugolds' last conference win came November 21 against River Falls, Eau Claire is 5-1 in their last six games and is on a three-game winning streak coming into the contest against the Pointers.
Since the New Year, the Blugold men have had nine different scorers throughout their four games. Joe Bluhm (Jr.-Red Wing, Minn.), who was recently awarded Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference athlete of the week honors, leads the Blugolds in 2009 with four goals and DJ Clark (Sr.-Blaine, Minn./Spring Lake Park) is close behind with three goals. Goalkeeper Tyler Brigl (Jr.-Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) has picked up 66 saves since the end of 2008 and has only allowed nine goals.
UW-Stevens Point is coming off of a 0-0 tie last Saturday with Hamline University, who lost to the Blugolds 4-2 the day before. In the all-time series, the Blugolds are 26-57-5 against the Pointers, but Eau Claire won the last contest against Stevens Point 2-0 last February 16 in Eau Claire.
