Three Pins Lead Wrestling Over St. Olaf

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - With the UW-Eau Claire wrestling team coming up with three pins, the Blugolds defeated St. Olaf College (Minn.) 31-15 tonight.
The Blugolds won their second dual meet in the last three days and improve to 5-8 on the year. St. Olaf falls to 0-5 in dual meets this year. Eau Claire has won each of its dual meets against St. Olaf in the last three years.
With the Blugolds down 12-0 after three matches, they turned it up a notch and only allowed one more victory for the Oles.
Andy Johnston (Jr.-St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech) kicked off the winning for Eau Claire with a 16-5 major decision victory over Ian Gacheru at 149 pounds. In the 157 pound category, it took Jon Ames (Jr.-Genoa, Wis./Viroqua) only 56 seconds to pin Derek Montgomery and earn six points for Eau Claire.
Jordan Davis (So.-Blaine, Minn./Centennial) also came up with a pin at 184 pounds in 1:29, while Joe Pitsch (Fr.-Oshkosh, Wis./North) also came away with a pin in the heavyweight category, defeating Nicholas Vernal in 3:36.
Seth Hendricks (Jr.-Beloit, Wis./Turner) also recorded a win for the Blugolds with a 4-3 decision over Josef Waples at 165 pounds and Josh Holforty (Sr.-Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy) won by forfeit to earn six points for the Blugolds.
Eau Claire will now have almost two weeks off and will be on the mat on January 24 for a dual meet against St. Cloud State (Minn.). The meet is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
