The win brings the Blugolds' record to 11-5-0 on the year, while Hamline falls to 9-3-0. Hamline struck first with a Joe Long power play goal to jump out to a 1-0 lead at the 13:31 mark in the first period. It took just ten seconds for the Blugolds to answer with a goal of their own, coming from Joe Bluhm (Jr.-Red Wing, Minn.). It was Bluhm's first of two goals on the night, and was assisted by Andrew Johnson (Sr.-Andover, Minn./Anoka) and Jesse Vesel (Sr.-Hibbing, Minn.). Eau Claire would find the back of the net again in the first period, on Brent Marple's (Jr.-Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) third goal of the year. Sean Garrity (Sr.-North St. Paul, Minn./North) provided the assist, his seventh of the season. At the 13:30 mark in the second period, Hamline evened the score at two on a Jared Hummel goal. That would be the only goal of the second, as the game would be decided in the final period. Eau Claire took the upper hand at 3:33 in the third, on Bluhm's second goal of the evening, his tenth on the year. Johnson and Vesel again assisted Bluhm on his goal. With an empty net from the Hamline defense, the Blugolds capped off the contest with a goal from Vesel, his fourth of the season, to end the scoring at 4-2. Tyler Brigl (Jr.-Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) picked up the victory between the pipes for the Blugolds. Brigl played the entire game, making 17 games and giving up just two goals. The Blugolds look to make it three straight wins tomorrow night with a match up against Augsburg (Minn.). In a December 12 contest at home, Eau Claire beat Augsburg 3-0 at Hobbs Ice Center. Tomorrow night's game is set to take place at 7 p.m. in St. Paul. - CL - |
