Please include a source of proof (newspaper, yearbook, etc.) to support your claim. ![]() Mon, Feb 17, 2025 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Men's Hockey Falls To St. Olaf Posted: Friday, January 2, 2009 EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - The UW-Eau Claire men's hockey team came up short to start 2009, falling to St. Olaf College (Minn.) 5-1 tonight at Hobbs Ice Center. Eau Claire now drops to 9-5 on the season while St. Olaf improves to 8-2-1. The last time St. Olaf defeated the Blugolds was on January 13, 2006 also at Hobbs Ice Center and the last time the Blugolds lost by four or more goals to the Oles was in the fall of 1997. Eau Claire still leads the all-time series 13-9. The Blugolds controlled the action in the first period, outshooting the Oles 13-9, but St. Olaf was the first team to strike on the evening. The Oles recorded an even-strength goal at 18:43 to get on the board. The Blugolds answered only 18 seconds later, however, with Nic Weight (Fr.-Eagle River, Wis. /Northland Pines) scoring the team's lone goal of the night. Brant Marple (Jr.-Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) and Greg Petersen (Sr.-Maple Grove, Minn./Totino-Grace) assisted on the goal. With the score all tied up heading into the second period, the Oles turned it up a notch and gave themselves a cushion, scoring three more goals in the period. In the third period St. Olaf added one more to make the score 5-1. St. Olaf's Roger Truesdale and Nick Stalock both recorded two goals apiece on the night. Only nine penalties were committed in the game and the Blugolds went 0-4 on the power-play, while St. Olaf was 0-3. For the game, Eau Claire outshot the Oles 39-35. Tyler Brigl (Jr.-Eagan, Minn.) was in-goal for the Blugolds all night, allowing five goals and picking up 30 saves. Nick Krauss played between the pipes the entire 60 minutes for St. Olaf and recorded 38 saves while allowing just one goal. Krauss improves to 6-1 on the season, while Brigl falls to 8-4. The Blugolds will be back on the ice at Hobbs Ice Center tomorrow to face the University of Minnesota-Crookston. The puck will drop at 7 p.m. - KM - |
