EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - The UW-Eau Claire men's hockey team came up short to start 2009, falling to St. Olaf College (Minn.) 5-1 tonight at Hobbs Ice Center.
Eau Claire now drops to 9-5 on the season while St. Olaf improves to 8-2-1. With the score all tied up heading into the second period, the Oles turned it up a notch and gave themselves a cushion, scoring three more goals in the period. In the third period St. Olaf added one more to make the score 5-1. St. Olaf's Roger Truesdale and Nick Stalock both recorded two goals apiece on the night.
Only nine penalties were committed in the game and the Blugolds went 0-4 on the power-play, while St. Olaf was 0-3. For the game, Eau Claire outshot the Oles 39-35.
Tyler Brigl (Jr.-Eagan, Minn.) was in-goal for the Blugolds all night, allowing five goals and picking up 30 saves. Nick Krauss played between the pipes the entire 60 minutes for St. Olaf and recorded 38 saves while allowing just one goal. Krauss improves to 6-1 on the season, while Brigl falls to 8-4.
The Blugolds will be back on the ice at Hobbs Ice Center tomorrow to face the University of Minnesota-Crookston. The puck will drop at 7 p.m.
