Posted: Tuesday, December 9, 2008
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - The UW-Eau Claire women's basketball team is set to take on UW-Platteville in its second Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) contest of the season Wednesday during Pack Zorn Night.
Pack Zorn Night will feature a number of giveaways and the first 250 students who show their Blugold ID card to get in will receive a free t-shirt. In addition, one UWEC student will be selected to participate in a halftime contest, sponsored by the UWEC Alumni Association, where the contestant has a chance to have his or her spring tuition paid. The challenger must sink a layup, free throw, 3-point shot and a half-court shot within 45 seconds.
The game itself on Wednesday will feature two teams that won their conference openers last weekend. The Blugolds, who are ranked eighth in the latest D3hoops.com poll and 10th in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's USA Today/ESPN Top 25 Poll, come into the contest with a 7-0 overall record and a 1-0 WIAC record, while the Pioneers are 1-0 in conference play and 3-4 overall.
Heidi Arciszewski (Sr.-Thorp, Wis.), who earned conference player of the week honors this week, leads the Blugolds this season, averaging 18.9 points per game and six rebounds per game. Heather Witt (Sr.-Kendall, Wis./Royall) leads the team this year with 30 steals and 25 assists and is averaging 14.3 points per game.
Lisa Grantman is leading the Pioneers this year with 14.1 points per game and is second on the team with 4.9 rebounds per game. Ashley Callahan is leading Platteville with an average of 5.7 rebounds per contest.
The game is set to begin Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Zorn Arena.
