Thu, May 23, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Men & Women's Swimming & Diving Takes Second In Minneapolis Posted: Saturday, December 6, 2008 MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - After the final day of the 2008 Falcon Invite hosted by UW-River Falls at the University of Minnesota, the UW-Eau Claire men's and women's swimming and diving teams took second place. On the men's side, Eau Claire scored 306 on the first day and 260 on the second day for a combined total of 566 total points. Third place finisher Gustavus left the day with 551 total points and first place finisher Luther College recorded a total of 816 points. On the women's side, Eau Claire scored 391 on the first day and 335 on the second day to give them 726 total points. Eau Claire was in first after the first day, but Minnesota State University Moorhead edged the Blugolds on the second day to give them an overall total of 762 points and the first place finish. With the combined scores, the Blugolds finished with an overall total of 1292, falling only 58 points behind the overall leader Luther College who finished with 1350 total points. The Blugold men took first and second place in the one-meter diving event. Brian Dykstra (Sr.-Racine, Wis./Horlick) grabbed first place with a score of 255.60 while Kenny Ritt (Jr.-Racine, Wis./Horlick) came in second with 234.20 points. Ben Macalalad (So.-Wausau, Wis./East) took second place in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 17:11.21, only two seconds behind the first place finisher. The relay team of Brett Olsen (Jr.-New Berlin, Wis./West Allis Hale), Patrick Finley (Sr.-Waunakee, Wis.), Bill Peterson (Jr.-Lake Elmo, Minn./North St. Paul) and Nicholas Mehring (So.-Eagan, Minn./Eastview) swam their way into third place in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:15.40. Mehring also had a third place finish in the 100-yard freestyle, coming in with a time of 48.20. The Blugold women had a very good day overall. Nicole Dorvinen (Fr.-Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) recorded a first place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:12.71. Angie Bakula (So.-Appleton, Wis./West) took second place in 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 18:28.35. The relay team of Ann Grossklaus (Jr.-Rib Mountain, Wis./Wausau West), Megan Lindner (So.-Muskego, Wis.), Megan Finley (So.-Waunakee, Wis.) and Emily Bowen (Fr.-McFarland, Wis.) took third place in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:39.88, three seconds behind the first place finisher. Kristen Lickel (Fr.-Madison, Wis./East) also had a third place finish in the 200-yard IM, completing the event in 4:44.20. Both teams will be getting a bit of a break as they won't be competing again until January. The Blugolds will have a winter training trip January 2-13 and will get back to conference action when they take on UW-La Crosse in La Crosse on January 17. - MT - |
