Tue, May 21, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Wrestling Splits The Day In La Crosse Posted: Saturday, December 6, 2008 LA CROSSE, Wis. - The UW-Eau Claire wrestling team split the day today at the UW-La Crosse 2x4 Wrestling Tournament at Mitchell Hall. The Blugolds, who took part in the four-team tournament, defeated both Augustana College (Ill.) 24-18 and 19th ranked Loras College (Iowa) 24-20 while losing to both 12th ranked Cornell College (Iowa) 37-12 and eighth-ranked North Central College (Ill.) 27-12. In the first match against Augustana, the Blugolds had five winners. Andy Miller (Sr.-Appleton, Wis./North) won by technical fall 18-0 in the 133 pound match. Andy Johnston (Jr.-St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech) won a major decision in the 149 pound match 11-2. At 157, Jon Ames (Jr.-Genoa, Wis./Viroqua) won by decision 5-2. Josh Holforty (Sr.-Bloomington, Minn./John F. Kennedy), who is ranked fourth in the nation at 197 pounds, took the 197 pound match won after pinning Matt Nykaza in 2:40. Mark Frick (Sr.-Blaine, Minn.) won by forfeit in the 285 pound match. In the match against 12th ranked Cornell College (Iowa), Eau Claire had two wrestlers tally wins. Holforty picked up his second win of the day at 197 pounds, pinning Robert Widmer in 4:15. Frick again was the only wrestler in the 285 pound weight class and won by forfeit. In the third match against 19th ranked Loras College (Iowa), the Blugolds had six winners. Miller won a major decision 11-0 at 133 pounds while Zach Weisenberger (Fr.-Ladysmith, Wis.) took the 141 pound match with a 10-5 decision. At 149 pounds, Johnston won an 11-4 decision while Seth Hendricks (Jr.-Beloit, Wis./F.J.) won by decision in the 165 pound match 3-2. Robbie Zube (Sr.-Viroqua, Wis.) won by forfeit at the 184 pound match and Holforty chalked up his third win of the day at the 197 pound match, defeating Alex Grafft by a technical fall. In the final match of the day against eighth-ranked North Central College (Ill.), the Blugolds only had three winners. Miller notched his third win of the day in the 133 pound match with a pin in 5:50 while Johnston also won his third match of the day. Holforty was the only Blugold on the day who won all four matches, winning by decision 8-4 in the last match. The Blugolds will be back in action on December 13 when they travel to St. Cloud for the St. Cloud Open. The event is set to begin at 9 a.m. Tournament Results- MT - |
