Tue, Jun 18, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Women's Swimming & Diving In First While Men Are In Second Posted: Friday, December 5, 2008 MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - After the first day of the 2008 Falcon Invite hosted by UW-River Falls at the University of Minnesota, the UW-Eau Claire men's and women's swimming and diving teams are in second and first place, respectively. The teams that competed at the invite were Luther College, Gustavus, Minnesota State University of Moorhead, St. John's University, UW-River Falls, University of St. Thomas, UW-Whitewater, Grinnell College, College of the St. Benedict, Carroll University and UW-Eau Claire. St. John's University did not have a women's team and both the College of St. Benedict and Minnesota State University of Moorhead did not have men's teams. On the men's side, Eau Claire scored 306 total points staying ahead of Whitewater by 20 points. Luther College took first on the day with 459 points. On the women's side, Eau Claire scored 391 total points to beat out the rest of the competition on the day. Minnesota State University of Moorhead came in second on the day with 369 points. The combined scores have put the Blugolds into second place overall with 697 points, falling 74 points behind the overall leader Luther College, who has 771. The Blugold men took first and second place in the three-meter diving event. Brian Dykstra (Sr.-Racine, Wis./Horlick) grabbed first place with a score of 260.75 while Kenny Ritt (Jr.-Racine, Wis./Horlick) came in second with 239.35 points. Nicholas Mehring (So.-Eagan, Minn./Eastview) finished third in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:55.14, while the relay team of Brett Olsen (Jr.-New Berlin, Wis./West Allis Hale), Patrick Finley (Sr.-Waunakee, Wis.), Bill Peterson (Jr.-Lake Elmo, Minn./North St. Paul) and Alex Plaetzer (Fr.-Rochester, Minn./John Marshall) men found their way to fifth place in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:29.73. Peterson also grabbed a fifth place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke. The Blugold women had a very good day overall. Angie Bakula (So.-Appleton, Wis./West) took third place in 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:18.52, just over five seconds behind the first place finisher, and also took third In the 200-yard freestyle in 2:00.22. The Blugolds' best finish came in the 200-yard freestyle relay as Eau Claire finished less than two seconds outside of first place. The women's team of Ann Grossklaus (Jr.-Rib Mountain, Wis./Wausau West), Casey Preissel (Fr.-Wisconsin Dells, Wis.), Megan Finley (So.-Waunakee, Wis.) and Emily Bowen (Fr.-McFarland, Wis.) completed the event in 1:41.28, while the first place Luther College team finished in 1:39.66.
