NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team avenged last night's loss to St. Olaf, topping the Oles 3-1 here tonight in Minnesota with the help of two power play goals in the third period.

The win moves the Blugolds back to the .500 mark at 1-1-0 while St. Olaf sports an identical record.

The Oles got the scoring started midway through the second period on a goal by Lindsay Boeser. The Blugolds responded just two minutes later, when Christa Hubert (Sr.-Blaine, MN) tied the game with her first goal of the young season. Amanda Schultz (Jr.-Stevens Point/SPASH), who scored Eau Claire's only goal last night, earned the assist on the goal by Hubert.

With the game knotted at one, St. Olaf was called for a five-minute major penalty for checking from behind. The Blugolds were able to take advantage of the power play, scoring two goals during the five minutes. Devon Nichols (Jr.-Victoria, MN) scored the first of the power play goals just 17 seconds into the third period on an assist by Laura Suppes (So.-Falcon Heights, MN/Roseville).

Three and a half minutes later Eau Claire took a two-goal advantage when Martina Korinek (So.-White Bear Lake, MN) took a pass from Tara Hayner (So.-Stillwater, MN) and scored to make it a 3-1 Blugold advantage. Nichols also earned an assist on the play, her second point of the night.

The Eau Claire defense was able to hold of the Oles the rest of the way to earn the Blugolds first victory of the season. Eau Claire held a 31-29 shot advantage over St. Olaf for the contest.

The Blugolds will be back in action next Friday when they host St. Catherine. Face off is set for 7:05 p.m. at Hobbs Ice Arena.
