Posted: Wednesday, November 26, 2008
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - The UW-Eau Claire women's basketball team is ready to host the 17th Annual Thanksgiving Showcase this Friday and Saturday in Zorn Arena.
Friday at 6 p.m. UW-Stevens Point will face Luther College (Iowa) while the Blugolds will take on St. Olaf College (Minn.) at 8 p.m. The losers of Friday's games will then face off in a consolation game at 6 p.m. Saturday and Friday's winners will play at 8 p.m. in the championship contest.
In the 16 previous Thanksgiving tournaments, Eau Claire has come away with the crown 14 times. The only times the Blugolds have come up short were last year, a 56-49 loss to the University of Chicago, and in 2003 when they lost 88-65 to Morningside (Iowa).
The Blugolds and the Pointers come into this weekend undefeated with a 3-0 record. Eau Claire is currently tied for 18th in the latest USA Today/ESPN Top 25 Poll, while Stevens Point received votes in the poll. Both teams opened the season with wins last Friday and Saturday and followed with another on Tuesday. Luther and St. Olaf head into the Thanksgiving Showcase without a win. Luther came close to a victory in its season opener but a buzzer-beater by Nebraska Wesleyan handed the Norse a 55-53 loss. The Oles are 0-1 on the season after losing their season opener, which was also their conference opener, 80-62 against Hamline University on November 18.

Arciszewski has also not missed a free throw yet this year, going 12-for-12 from the line.
Sophomore Britta Petersen is currently leading Stevens Point, averaging 17 points per game. She is shooting well so far, going 69.4 percent from the field (25-for-36) and is leading the team with 23 rebounds (7.7 per game).
In only one game so far, Elyse Erickson leads St. Olaf with 22 points. She also has three rebounds and a team-high four steals. Erickson shot 58.3 percent from the floor (7-for-12) and went 8-for-11 (72.7 percent) from the free throw line against Hamline on November 18. Tasha Mrosak leads the team with four rebounds.
Camille Stenhaug leads Luther with 11.5 points per game. No others on the team have a double-digit average this season.
