Posted: Sunday, November 23, 2008
ADRIAN, Mich. - The UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team has seen plenty of overtime games this season and today the Blugolds played in another, tying Adrian College (Mich.) 2-2 after 65 minutes of play at Arrington Ice Arena.
The Blugolds, who have now played five overtime games in eight total games this season, are 5-1-2 overall and 2-1-2 in overtime games. Adrian now sits at 5-4-1 this year.
Eau Claire fell behind in the first period of today's game, allowing an even-strength goal at 18:53. Adrian's Olivia Rork scored her fourth goal of the season with assists from Dana Funkenhauser and Kelly Salis to give the Bulldogs the lead.
In the second period, the Blugolds struck twice with two even-strength goals to take the lead. Kristin Faber (So.-Austin, Minn.) scored first for Eau Claire at 6:08 in the second with an assist from Toni Simones (Fr.-Rosemount, Minn./South St. Paul) to tie the game up at 1-1. Less than seven minutes later, Christine Dickinson (So.-Layton, Utah/Shattuck-St. Mary's) found the back of the net with assists coming from Meghan Lorenz (So.-Wayzata, Minn.) and Kelli Johnson (So.-Farmington, Minn.) to make the score 2-1.
The Blugolds' lead was short-lived, however, as Adrian came storming out of the gate in the third and scored a power-play goal 54 seconds in. Alexis Glenn scored her first goal of the season, while Stacey Kempson and Jessica Grubbs assisted.
Eau Claire outshot Adrian today 30-26. Lea Jondal (Fr.-Somerset, Wis./Cretin-Derham Hall) played all 65 minutes in-goal for Eau Claire and recorded 24 saves, while Adrian's Dana Timm also played the entire game, stopping 28 shots.
The Blugolds will have next weekend off and will be back on the ice December 5 and 6 with two road games. Friday Eau Claire will face Concordia University (Wis.), a team the Blugolds have beat once and tied once in two overtime games, and will finish up the weekend Saturday with a trip to Lake Forest, Ill. to take on Lake Forest College. Friday's game is set for 7 p.m. while Saturday's is slated for 2 p.m.
