With the Blugolds' loss tonight, they move to 7-2-0 on the year and 2-2-0 in the NCHA. The conference loss puts UW-Eau Claire in a four-way tie for third place with Stevens Point, Stout and St. Scholastica. UW-Superior sits alone in first place and St. Norbert in second. No. 1 St. Norbert went into tonight's game at Superior on a 37-game non-losing streak but came up short against the Yellowjackets, losing 4-3. The Blugolds move to an all-time record of 24-26-2 against UW-Stout. The first period proved to be the Blugolds' downfall as the only two goals of the game came within the first period from the Blue Devils. At 8:47, Stout's Derek Hanson scored an even strength goal to give Stout the 1-0 lead. At 17:19 in the first period, the Blue Devils struck again as Joel Gaulrapp scored another even strength goal to make the score 2-0. The Blugolds battled but could not seem to find the back of the Blue Devil's net as Stout handed the Blugolds their first shutout loss of the season. The Blugolds continued to out shoot their opponents tonight 37-16, but Blue Devil goalkeeper Matt Koenig saved all 37 shots. Eau Claire goalkeeper Tyler Brigl (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) did well with 14 saves on the night, but allowed the two goals that doomed the Blugolds. Brigl moves to 6-2-0 as the Blugolds' goaltender on the year while having 154 saves on the year. Eau Claire returns to the ice for a home stand December 5 and 6 against St. Scholastica and UW-Superior. Both games are set to start at 7:00 p.m. at Hobbs Ice Center. - MT - |
