Sun, May 19, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Men's Swimming & Diving Takes Second While Women Take Third Posted: Saturday, November 22, 2008 EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - The UW-Eau Claire men's and women's swimming and diving teams placed second and third, respectively, out of six teams at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Relays at the McPhee Pool today. On the men's side, Eau Claire scored 120 total points to beat out La Crosse, Whitewater, Oshkosh and River Falls. UW-Stevens Point took first on the day with 152 points. On the women's side, Eau Claire scored 88 total points to beat out Whitewater, Oshkosh and River Falls. UW-La Crosse took first on the day overall with 158 points and UW-Stevens Point followed with 154 points. Last season the Blugold women also took third, but the men improved two spots over last year, as they finished fourth with 92 points. The Blugold men took first place in the men's one-meter diving event with 277.45 points. Eau Claire also took second place in the men's three-meter dive with a score of 229.40 points. The Blugold men also found their way to a first place finish in the 850-yard freestyle relay with a time of 8:05.50, just over 11 seconds in front of second place. The relay team consisted of Brett Olsen (Jr.-New Berlin, Wis./West Allis Hale), Patrick Finley (Sr.-Waunakee, Wis.), Nick Mehring ( So.-Eagan, Minn./Eastview) and Ben Macalalad (So.-Wausau, Wis./East). The women took third in a majority of the events today. In all, Eau Claire had 11 third place finishes. The Blugolds' best finish came in the 200-yard freestyle relay as Eau Claire finished less than two seconds outside of first place. The women's team of Megan Lindner (So.-Muskego, Wis.), Casey Preissel (Fr.-Wisconsin Dells, Wis.), Megan Finley (So.-Waunakee, Wis.) and Emily Bowen (Fr.-McFarland, Wis.)completed the event in 1:41.35, while the first place La Crosse team finished in 1:39.49. Both teams will be back in action on December 5 and 6 in Minneapolis, Minn. to take part in the Falcon Invite. Events are slated to begin at 10 a.m. - MT - |
