Wed, May 22, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Holforty Leads Wrestling At Auggie Open Posted: Saturday, November 22, 2008 MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Josh Holforty (Sr. -Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy) led the UW-Eau Claire wrestling team with a third place finish in the 197 pound gold bracket at the Augsburg College Auggie-Brute-Adidas Open today at Si Melby Hall. Holforty, who is ranked fourth in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association poll at 197 pounds, made it to a semifinal match after pinning Derek Smith in 4:25 to open the day and following with an 8-1 decision over Wartburg's Mickey Sprague. Holforty then lost to Chadron State's Josh Majerus, who went on to take second place, by a 6-2 decision and dropped down to the third place match. He then pinned St. John's Tony Willaert, who is ranked third in the NWCA poll, in 5:49 to take third. Keith Dawson (Fr.-Neillsville, Wis.) was the next highest finisher for the Blugolds, taking fifth place in the 174 pound silver bracket. Dawson started the day pinning Central's Kevin Yeoman in 28 seconds but then lost to St. John's Dustin Raygor by a 12-7 decision. Dawson recorded another pin in 4:56 over Briar Cliff University's James Shrader and then won by default over St. Olaf College's Bryce Mikel to take fifth place. Wrestling in the 149 pound gold bracket, Andy Johnston (Jr.-St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech) took sixth place overall, falling in the fifth place match to Augsburg's Torey Stewart in 1:50. In the 133 pound gold bracket, Andy Miller (Sr.-Appleton, Wis./North) found his way to a seventh place finish. After falling in the opening match, Miller won three straight, ending with a 6-3 decision over Wartburg's Mike for the seventh place finish. The Blugolds will be back on the road Tuesday when they face Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. The meet is set to begin at 7 p.m. - KM - |
