Posted: Saturday, November 22, 2008
ADRIAN, Mich. - The UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team needed only one goal to defeat Adrian College (Mich.) 1-0 today at Arrington Ice Arena.
The Blugolds, who had played in four straight overtime games coming into today's contest, improve to 5-1-1 overall. Adrian, who received votes in the latest USCHO.com top 10 poll, drops to 5-4 on the season. The Blugolds' victory over Adrian was the first in program history, but Adrian still leads the all-time series 2-1.
Beth Dittrich (Jr.-Roseville, Minn.) found the net tonight with the eventual game-winner at 10:33 in the second period. Toni Simones (Fr.-Rosemount, Minn./South St. Paul) and Kristin Faber (So.-Austin, Minn.) assisted on the even-strength goal, which was Dittrich's third of the season.
Lea Jondal (Fr.-Somerset, Wis./Cretin-Derham Hall) saw the first action of her collegiate career between the pipes tonight. She played all 60 minutes for Eau Claire and recorded the Blugolds' first shutout of the season, stopping 29 shots.
Adrian outshot the Blugolds on the day 29-22. Faber led Eau Claire with nine shots overall, while Adrian's Stacey Kempson led the game with 11.
Tomorrow Eau Claire will face Adrian once again at Arrington Ice Arena. The puck is set to drop at 11 a.m.
