Posted: Friday, November 21, 2008
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - The UW-Eau Claire men's and women's swimming and diving teams face off against their conference foes this Saturday when they host the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Relays.
The six WIAC schools that sponsor swimming will all be at the meet this weekend. The schools include: Eau Claire, La Crosse, Oshkosh, River Falls, Stevens Point and Whitewater.
The Blugold men and women are 2-1 overall with records of 2-1 in dual meets and 2-0 in WIAC dual meets. Both teams defeated UW-River Falls and UW-Oshkosh in the last few weeks. The Blugolds lost to Minnesota State University-Mankato earlier this year.
The women's swimming team has been led this year by Angie Bakula (So.-Appleton, Wis./West). In three meets she has taken the top spot in the 500 and 1,000-yard freestyle each time. On the men's side, Ben Macalalad (So.-Wausau, Wis./East) has taken first in at least one event at each meet so far this year. In men's diving, Bryan Dykstra (Sr.-Racine, Wis./Horlick) has done exceptionally well in both the one and three-meter dives so far this season.
This weekend's events get underway at the McPhee Pool with the diving set to begin at 10 a.m., followed by the swimming at 1 p.m.
