After moving up to the No. 9 spot in the USCHO Division III Men's Rankings this Monday, the 6-1-0 overall and 1-1-0 conference men are currently in a four-way-tie for third in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association along with UW-Stevens Point, St. Scholastica, and UW-River Falls. UW-Superior and St. Norbert currently sit atop the NCHA with 2-0-0 records and are nationally ranked fifth and first, respectively. The ninth-ranked Blugolds have started the year hot with a six-game winning streak, having only been defeated by top-ranked St. Norbert. Five Blugold players this year have scored three or more goals including Sean Garrity (Sr.-North St. Paul, Minn./North) who has scored five goals and assisted five goals on the season. Goalkeeper Tyler Brigl (Jr.-Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) has been having a good year as well, recording 111 saves and only allowing 12 goals on the year. The Falcons this year started their season with a tie followed by three straight losses to give River Falls a 0-3-1 record until they finally won against St. Scholastica and then lost against UW-Superior, giving them an overall record of 1-4-1. Eau Claire is out-shooting River Falls on the season 241-214 and out-scoring the Falcons on the year 31-15, giving Eau Claire a .129 shot percentage over River Falls who has a .070 shot percentage on the year. In the all-time series between the two teams, the Blugolds are 27-78-3 against the Falcons with the Blugolds having won the last contest in February 5-0. The puck is set to drop at 7 p.m. at Hobbs Ice Center on Friday against the Falcons and then the Blugolds will travel to Menomonie on Saturday to face UW-Stout at 7:30 p.m. - MT - |
