Sat, May 18, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Wrestling Set For 2008-09 Season Posted: Friday, November 14, 2008 EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - The UW-Eau Claire wrestling team is ready to begin the 2008-09 season, with its first contests slated for November 15 at the Lakeland Duals. The Blugolds return 10 letterwinners from a season ago, including at least one wrestler with experience at each weight class except 141 pounds. Josh Holforty (Sr.-Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy) highlights this year's squad. Last season Holforty earned All-American honors after finishing in sixth place at the NCAA Division III Championships, wrestling at 197 pounds. He posted a 30-10 record last year and owns a 75-26 career record heading into his final season. He will serve as a Blugold captain this year. Andy Miller (Sr.-Appleton, Wis./North) also returns for Eau Claire and will wrestle at 133 pounds this year. Last year Miller took third place at the WIAC Championships. Miller will be the other captain this season. Other returners who finished sixth or better at last year's WIAC Championships are Brandon Page (Sr.-Holmen, Wis.), Andy Johnston (Jr.-St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech), Seth Hendricks (Jr.-Beloit, Wis./Turner) and Jon Ames (Jr.-Genoa, Wis./Viroqua). The Blugolds also welcome back letterwinners Daniel Coughlin (Jr.-Durand, Wis.), Mark Frick (Sr.-Blaine, Minn.), Mike Walker (Jr.-Shorewood, Wis.) and Robbie Zube (Sr.-Viroqua, Wis.). Frick, Walker and Zube have all earned two letters while Coughlin has one. Eau Claire has 13 newcomers on this year's squad. Among them are wrestlers who competed in state high school championship meets multiple times and also won conference titles in various weight classes. - KM - |
