Men's Basketball Takes On Green Bay In Exhibition Game

GREEN BAY, Wis. - While Division I UW-Green Bay defeated the UW-Eau Claire men's basketball team 92-61 tonight in an exhibition contest at the Resch Center, the Blugolds played the Phoenix close in the second half.

During the second half, Green Bay scored 46 points while the Blugolds accumulated 44 behind 17-for-30 shooting from the field (56.7 percent). In the first, the Phoenix also scored 46 but the Blugolds were only able to record 17 points. Green Bay shot 51.6 percent in the first (16-for-31) and 41.4 percent in the second (12-for-29) from the field, but scored 18 points off free throws in the second half.

For the game the Blugolds shot 50 percent (24-for-48) while Green Bay shot 46.7 percent (28-for-60). Eau Claire was also more accurate from beyond the arc, shooting 46.2 percent (6-for-13) to Green Bay's 37.9 percent (11-for-29)

Freshman Josh Prince (Fr.-Cadott, Wis./Chippewa Falls) led the Blugolds in scoring this evening with 14 points. Colin Boone (Jr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) was the only other Blugold in double-figures with 13 points. Green Bay's Troy Cotton led the game with 23 points, while Chop Tang recorded 19. Two others reached double-digit point totals for Green Bay.

Chance Weisensel (Jr.-Alamogordo, N.M.) led Eau Claire with five boards and Prince pulled down four. Three others recorded three rebounds. For the Phoenix, Tang pulled down seven while two others grabbed six.

The Blugolds led the game once tonight after Dan Beyer (Sr.-Waukesha, Wis./Catholic Memorial) drained the game's opening shot, a three-pointer. On Green Bay's next trip down the court, Cotton answered with a three and then took the lead for good on their next possession with another three.

This was the Phoenix's second game of the season. Last Saturday they faced Division II Minnesota-Duluth and came away with a 93-61 victory.

The Blugolds kick off the regular season at the Wheaton College Tip-Off Tournament on November 21 and 22.
