The Blugolds move to an all-time record of 6-11-2 against the Cardinals having won their last three contests. In tonight's contest, Eau Claire finished with three power-play goals, a short-handed goal and two even strength goals. The Blugolds started the game quickly with a goal by DJ Clark (Blaine, Minn./Spring Lake Park) in 58 seconds with an assist by Ross Janezyk (So.-Grand Rapids, Mich./Catholic Central) and Bryan Plaszcz Sr.-Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview). Almost 10 minutes later, Andrew Johnson (Sr.-Andover, Minn./Anoka) put in another goal with an assist from Jesse Vesel (Hibbing, Minn.) and Dustin Trail (Fr.-Albert Lea, Minn.) to make the score of the game 2-0. The Cardinals' Matt Staehely wasn't down and out though scoring at 14:11 to end the first period with the Blugolds ahead 2-1. The second period proved more of an even match up between Eau Claire and St. Mary's. Matt Staehely put in the Cardinals' second goal of the night at 03:23 into the second period to even the score at 2-2. The Blugolds kept at it though and eventually Trail put in the third goal of the night with an assist from Clark at 11:49. The Blugolds dominated the third period and ended any hope of a Cardinal comeback. Sean Garrity (North St. Paul, Minn./North) started the period quickly with a goal at 01:05 with an assist from Greg Petersen (Maple Grove, Minn./Totino-Grace) and Tyler Trudell (Jr.-Waukesha, Wis./South) to put the Blugolds up by two. Five minutes later, Clark scored an unassisted short-handed goal to give the Blugolds their third insurance goal. Janezyk found the net for the second time with a goal at 11:57 and the assist from Dan Fina (Sr.-Fontana, Wis./Glenbard South) to cap the Blugolds off with a 6-2 win. The Blugolds seemed to be trigger-happy tonight, out shooting the Cardinals 48-15. Goalkeeper Tyler Brigl (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) had a pretty laid back night, notching 13 saves on the night while the Cardinals' goalkeeper Greg Moore had 42 saves on the night. Eau Claire returns to the ice Saturday, November 14 against Lake Forest in Lake Forest, Ill. The puck will drop at 7:30 p.m. - MT - |
