Three Named CoSIDA Academic All-District

DELWARE, Ohio. - Three UW-Eau Claire football players have earned College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA)/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District 5 College Division first and second team honors, officials announced today.

Safety Paul Bielmeier (Sr.-Edgar, Wis.) and linebacker Ben Shea (Jr.-Manitowoc, Wis./Lincoln) lead the Blugolds as first team selections and are now eligible for All-American honors. The All-America team will be announced on November 25. Matt Ebner (Sr.-Mindoro, Wis./Melrose-Mindoro) also earned recognition with a second team selection this year.

This year's selection was Bielmeier's second time to the All-District team. Last year he earned second team honors. Bielmeier, a kinesiology major with a 3.93 GPA, is third on the team this year with 35 total tackles (23 solos, 12 assists) and has forced one fumble and recovered another. Earlier this season he was named a 2008 Draddy Trophy semifinalist and was the Blugolds' Special Teams Newcomer of the year in 2005. Bielmeier has appeared on UW-Eau Claire's Dean's List and has earned academic distinction six times.

Shea is also a kinesiology major with a 3.93 GPA. He has played in every game for the Blugolds this season and is eighth on the team with 22 tackles (20 solos, 2 assists). He has recorded one sack and forced two fumbles this year. Shea has earned UW-Eau Claire academic distinction and Dean's List honors twice.

Ebner, who holds a 3.61 GPA and is a math education major, has started every game this season. He is sixth on the team with 28 tackles (17 solos, 11 assists) and leads the team in sacks with 4.5 and tackles-for-loss with eight. He is also fourth in the conference in sacks per game. Ebner has appeared on UW-Eau Claire's Dean's List once and earned academic distinction honors six times.
