Tue, May 21, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Soccer Set For WIAC Tournament Posted: Thursday, November 6, 2008 EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - The UW-Eau Claire soccer team will look to defend its Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament title this weekend at Goerke Park in Stevens Point. The WIAC Tournament gets underway Friday with La Crosse taking on Stevens Point at 11 a.m. The Blugolds then face Whitewater at 2 p.m. The winners of each contest will then face each other in the championship game at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Pointer Soccer Bowl. Eau Claire has won the WIAC Tournament and earned the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA playoffs each of the last three seasons. The Blugolds head into this weekend ranked 15th in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America top 25 poll with an overall record of 16-1-3. The Blugolds' only loss of the year came against Stevens Point. The Blugolds came up short 1-0 in the contest at the Bollinger Fields on October 11. Eau Claire beat Whitewater 3-1 on October 4 also at home, while defeating UW-La Crosse 2-0 on September 27 in La Crosse. Amy Smith (Sr.-Bloomington, Minn./Thomas Jefferson) comes into the weekend leading the Blugolds in goals and points this year with 20 and 45, respectively. She needs only one goal this weekend to become the Blugolds' all-time career goals and points leader. She is currently tied for most goals in a career with 48 and is second in points with 122. One goal this weekend will also allow her to capture the school's single season goals record and needs three points to capture a record for most points in a season. - KM - |
