The loss drops to the Cobbers' record to 0-2 this year. The last time Eau Claire won three or more straight to start the season was in 2003 when the Blugolds went 4-0. The Blugolds had to fight their way back into the game after being down 2-0 following the first period. Eau Claire got back into the game with Sean Garrity (Sr.-North St. Paul, Minn./North) scoring a short-handed goal with an assist from Brant Marple Jr.-Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) 44 seconds into the second period. Andrew Johnson (Sr.-Andover, Minn./Anoka) then found the net less than four minutes later to tie the game up. Dustin Trail (Fr.-Albert Lea, Minn.) and John Kearns (So.-Chicago, Ill./Maine South) were credited with assists on the goal, which was on a power-play. Concordia answered with a power-play goal of its own 31 seconds later to again take the lead. Before the second period was over, Jesse Vesel (Sr.-Hibbing, Minn.) scored to tie the game up once again at three. Bryan Plaszcz Sr.-Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) then put the Blugolds back up again with an unassisted goal at 6:08 in the third, but the Cobbers wouldn't let the Blugolds off that easy and tied the game back up with less than nine minutes to go. Two minutes later, Greg Petersen (Sr.-Maple Grove, Minn./Totino-Grace) found the net for Eau Claire, scoring the eventual game-winner on a power-play, with assists from Tyler Trudell (Jr.-Waukesha, Wis./South) and Garrity. Mike Devoney (So.-Buffalo Grove, Ill./Adlai Stevenson) played the full 60 minutes in the goal for Eau Claire, recording 10 saves and allowing four goals. Concordia's Mike Persson was in the net all but 11 seconds this evening. He allowed all five goals but stopped 30 shots. Eau Claire out-shot the Cobbers 35-14 tonight. The Cobbers were 2-for-4 on the power-play in the game, while Eau Claire was 2-for-9. Eau Claire had five penalties in the contest and Concordia had 20. The Blugolds will be back at home next weekend for two more games. On Friday Eau Claire will take on St. Thomas and will face St. Mary's on Saturday. The puck will drop at 7 p.m. both nights.
