Swimming & Diving Defeats River Falls

HUDSON, Wis. - The UW-Eau Claire men's and women's swimming and diving teams beat UW-River Falls today at Hudson Middle School.
Eau Claire's men scored 120 points to River Falls' 84, but did not lose a single event. On the women's side, the Blugolds won 123-89 and only lost the 50-yard freestyle.
Both the men and women spread around victories with only on individual winning more than one event during the meet. Nick Mehring (So.-Eagan, Minn./Eastview) won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:52.16 and also took home first place in the 100-yard freestyle in 51.23.
Ben Macalalad (So.-Wausau, Wis./East) completed the 1,000-yard freestyle in a time of 10:30.41 to take first place. In the 50-yard freestyle, Brett Olsen (Jr.-New Berlin, Wis./West Allis Hale) took first in 23.87 and Bill Peterson (Jr.-Lake Elmo, Minn./North St. Paul) finished with a time of 2:06.91 to take first. Andrew Lewandowski (Fr.-Greenfield, Wis./Whitnall) won the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 57.40. In the 1-meter dive, Bryan Dykstra (Sr.-Racine, Wis./Horlick) defeated three other competitors to take home first with a score of 256.5.
In the women's events, Angie Bakula (So.-Appleton, Wis./West) won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:01.06 and Nicole Freeman (Fr.-Rochester, Minn./Century) took first with a time of 11:25.74 in the 1,000-yard freestyle. Kia Kraft (Fr.-Menomonie, Wis.) finished first in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:18.89 and Kirsten Lickel (Fr.-Madison, Wis./East) won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:03.20. Ann Grossklaus (Jr.-Rib Mountain, Wis./Wausau West) took first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 57.19, while Alyssa Trainor (So.-Winona, Minn./Cotter) won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:04.47. Lindsay Van De Water (So.-River Falls, Wis.) completed the 1-meter dive with 158.45 to take first.
The Blugolds will next take on UW-Oshkosh on November 15. The meet is set for 1 p.m. in Oshkosh.
