Thu, May 23, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Swimming & Diving Falls In Season Opener Posted: Friday, October 17, 2008 MANKATO, Minn. - The UW-Eau Claire swimming and diving team kicked off the 2008-09 season Friday night, coming up short against NCAA Division II Minnesota State University, Mankato. The Blugold men ended the evening scoring 100 points while Mankato posted 197. The women finished with 97 as Mankato totaled 196. Eau Claire's women came up with four first place finishes on the evening. Angie Bakula (So.-Appleton, Wis./West) won two events, the 1000-yard and 500-yard freestyle events. She finished with times of 11:06.72 and 5:26.59, respectively. Winning the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:03.61 was Ann Grossklaus (Jr.-Rib Mountain, Wis./Wausau West), while freshman Nicole Dorvinen (Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:15.07. Grossklaus also took second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 56 seconds. For the men, Ben Macalalad (So.-Wausau, Wis./East) took the top spot in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 10:26.87. Bryan Dykstra (Sr.-Racine, Wis./Horlick) also placed first in the one-meter dive, scoring 286.65. He also captured second in the three-meter dive with 244.55, finishing less than 11 points out of first place. Matt Schultz (Jr.-Oakdale, Minn./North) took second in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:09.42, while Patrick Finley (Sr.-Waunakee, Wis.) also had a second place finish with a time of 1:52.17 in the 200-yard freestyle. The Blugolds will compete twice at home next weekend. On Friday they will compete in a diving meet against Stevens Point and St. Cloud. Saturday both the swimmers and divers will be in the pool against the same teams. - KM - |
