UW-Eau Claire men's basketball player Dan Beyer (Sr. -Waukesha, WI/Catholic Memorial) has received preseason All-American honorable mention recognition, announced earlier this week in the Sporting News 2008-09 College Basketball Preview.
Beyer led the Blugolds a season ago with 513 points (19 per game) and 197 rebounds (7.3 per game). His 19 points per game tied for first in the conference, while his rebounding average was third. Beyer also led the team in field-goal shooting percentage going 209-for-345 (.606), which was third best in the WIAC. He accumulated 75 assists, second most on the team, and had the third most steals and assists with 24 and 11, respectively. For his efforts, Beyer earned first team National Association of Basketball Coaches All-District honors, second team D3hoops.com All-West Region honors, and was a first team All-WIAC selection.
The Blugolds will see their first action in one month when they travel to UW-Green Bay for an exhibition game on Nov. 9 at the Resch Center. Eau Claire will then kick off the regular season with the Wheaton College (Ill.) Tournament Nov. 21-22.
