Sat, May 25, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Women's Tennis Wins Seventh Straight Meet Posted: Tuesday, October 7, 2008 MENOMONIE, Wis. - The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team defeated UW-Stout 6-3 today to extend its winning streak to seven. The Blugolds improve to 8-3 overall and 4-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, giving them the most wins within the conference. The Blue Devils now drop to 3-5 overall and 1-3 in WIAC play. When it came to doubles competition today, the Blugolds won two of the three matches.. The No. 2 pair of Erin Welch (Jr.-Tomah, Wis.) and Brenna McCormick (Jr.-Greendale, Wis.) stepped up and won their match 8-1. The No. 3 doubles team of Jackie Gillespie (Fr.-De Pere, Wis.) and Emily Hiebl (Fr.-Wausau, Wis./East) had a close match with the Blue Devils, winning 9-7. The No. 1 pair of Gina Dahl (Jr.-Fort Atkinson, Wis.) and Courtney Lynne (Jr.-Rochester, Minn./Mayo) dropped their match to the Blue Devils 8-2 On the single's side, the Blugolds took four of the six matches against the Blue Devils. Megan Born (Fr.-Antigo, Wis.) notched a victory for the Blugolds in the No. 2 spot with a 6-1, 6-4 win. McCormick took the No. 3 spot with a 6-2, 7-5 win. Welch carried the No. 4 spot to a 6-1, 6-0 victory while Lynne provided a 6-1, 6-3 win for the Blugolds in the No. 6 spot. The losses on the day came from Dahl in the No. 1 spot with a 7-6, 6-3 loss while Michelle Reinders (So.-Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) also came close with a 6-3, 4-6 and 10-2 loss. After a week and a half break, the Blugolds will play their last meet of the season on October 18 against UW-La Crosse at 11:00 a.m. in La Crosse. - MT - |
