Sat, May 25, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Women's Golf In First At WIAC Championship Posted: Friday, October 3, 2008 ARKDALE, Wis. - The UW-Eau Claire women's golf team completed day one of the 2008 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship in first place with 329 strokes at Northern Bay Golf Resort and Marina. The Blugolds have a nine stroke cushion over second-place UW-Whitewater. Stevens Point currently sits in third place with 341 strokes, while Stout is fourth with 357. Katie Maurer (Fr.-Forest Lake, Minn./Convent of the Visitation) led the 46-golfer field with 77 strokes overall on the par-72 course. Whitewater's Chelsea Davis is in second with 79. Torie Ives (Jr.-Osseo, Wis./Osseo-Fairchild), who was the WIAC individual champion in 2006, is currently tied for third with 81 strokes, while Lauren Gault (Fr.-Shorewood, Wis.) is eighth with 84. Sisters Katie Swift (So.-Onalaska, Wis.) and Emily Swift (Fr.-Onalaska, Wis.) are tied for 14th and 23rd, respectively, with first round totals of 87 and 91. Three Blugolds were also competing as individuals today. Jess Spitzer (Fr.-Burlington, Wis.) led all individuals golfing in the championship with 82 strokes, tied for fifth place. Sara Mattes (Fr.-La Crosse, Wis./Central) tied for 16th with 88, while Jamie Hauser (Fr.-Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) is 34th with 97. The Blugolds will be back on the course Saturday for the second day of the championship. They will then finish up on Sunday and the winner will earn an automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Championship. - KM - |
