MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The UW-Eau Claire women's volleyball team was unable to avenge a loss from earlier this season, falling to No. 6 University of St. Thomas in three sets tonight at Schoenecker Arena.
With the loss, the Blugolds drop to 10-9 on the season, with five of their nine losses coming to nationally-ranked opponents. St. Thomas extends its win streak to 14 games with the victory.
Eau Claire was in position to take the first set with a 25-24 lead, but St. Thomas ran off three straight points to steal the comeback win. The following two losses came by scores of 25-19 and 25-22 to complete the sweep for the Tommies.
Eau Claire led the match in service aces and blocks with seven apiece, while St. Thomas recorded two aces and four blocks. However, the major difference came in attack kills. The Blugolds mustered just 25 kills to the Tommies' 46 for the match.
Katie Fox (Sr.-Chippewa Falls, Wis./Chi-Hi) led the Blugolds with six kills. Abby Freiborg (Sr.-Sacred Heart, Minn./Renville County West) added four kills to go along with 19 digs, and Emily Haese (Sr.-Mishicot, Wis.) had 19 assists and 17 digs.

The match marks the first competition in the newly remodeled McPhee Gymnasium and will also be senior day for the Blugolds. Action is set to begin at noon.
