Tue, Jun 18, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Men's Tennis Competes At Ita Championships Posted: Sunday, September 28, 2008 ST. PETER, Minn. -- The UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team competed in singles and doubles events at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Region Championships hosted by Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.). Those not competing in the ITA took part in the Midwest Open.
Lantz, along with partner Phil Loprinzi (Jr.-Rochester, Minn/Mayo), advanced to the third round, losing to the 11th-ranked UW-Whitewater team of Danny Glinert and Erick Palecek, 8-6. Eau Claire's other doubles team, Kevin Fawcett (Jr.-Madison, Wis./Verona) and Lars Olson (So.-De Pere, Wis.), advanced to the second round but lost to Gustavus's 2nd-ranked team of Mike Burdakin and John Kauss.
It was an all-Eau Claire doubles final round at the Midwest Open. Johnson and partner Chris Kuna (Fr.-Edina, Minn.) defeated Dirk Van Rybroek (Fr.-Madison, Wis./Edgewood) and Eric Wollum (So.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial), 8-3. The Blugolds' men's tennis team will be back in competition beginning in the spring. - CL - |

The Blugolds had four singles players competing and two doubles team taking part in the ITA event. On the singles side, Steve Lantz (Sr.-Rochester, Minn./Century) was the highest finisher for the Blugolds, advancing to the third round before falling to UW-Whitewater's Alex Lowe 6-4, 6-1. The Blugolds' remaining singles players all fell in the first or second round of the tournament.
The Blugolds' Aaron Johnson (So.-Andover, Minn./Elk River) had a solid showing in the Midwest Open, defeating Eric Scanlan of UW-Whitewater to advance to the semi-final round. In the semi-finals, Johnson was defeated by Bethel's David Torres 6-1, 6-2.
