Women's Golf Ties For Second At Midwest Classic

HAM LAKE, Minn. - The UW-Eau Claire women's golf team shot the lowest second round score today and moved up four places to finish tied for second at the Division III Midwest Classic at the Majestic Oaks Golf Club.
Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.), which shot 318 on day one and 334 on day two of the tournament, took the top spot with an overall total of 652. The Blugolds had 327 strokes today and combined with their day-one total of 356, shot 683 overall, tying the University of St. Thomas for second.
The University of St. Thomas' Laura Heck won medalist honors, shooting 79 on day one and 78 on the second day for a final total of 157.
Torie Ives (Jr.-Osseo, Wis./Osseo-Fairchild) led the Blugolds today with 79 strokes and finished second on the team and tied for 12th overall at the tournament with 169 strokes. Emily Swift (Onalaska, Wis.) led the way for the Blugolds with rounds of 86 and 80 for a total of 166 strokes. She tied for 9th overall at the tournament. Katie Maurer (Fr.-Forest Lake, Minn./Convent of the Visitation) shot 173 and finished tied for 20th overall. Lauren Gault (Fr.-Shorewood, Wis.) shot an 82 on the second day of competition, the third lowest total for the Blugolds today. Jamie Hauser (Fr.-Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) completed the tournament with 187 strokes, finishing in 55th place. Sara Mattes (Fr.-La Crosse, Wis./Central) and Jess Spitzer (Fr.-Burlington, Wis.) golfed as individuals and finished with 178 and 185 strokes, tying for 30th and 51st overall, respectively.
Next weekend the Blugolds will head to Bloomington, Ill. for the Illinois Wesleyan Golf Classic. The first round is set for Saturday with the conclusion on Sunday.
