Sun, May 19, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Women's Golf Takes Fifth At Wartburg Invite Posted: Sunday, September 7, 2008 WAVERLY, Iowa - The UW-Eau Claire women's golf team moved up one spot on the final day of the 2008 Wartburg College Fall Invitational at Centennial Oaks Golf Club, to finish in fifth place overall. Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.) won the invite with 633 strokes. On the second day, Gustavus out-shot the rest of the 17-team field by 14 strokes, totaling 309 for the round. Illinois Wesleyan took second place overall, shooting 325 on day two, for a total of 656. Wartburg College (Iowa) finished in third with 657, while the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) took fourth with 662. The Blugolds shot 668 in their fifth place finish. St. Thomas' Laura Heck was the invite's individual medalist. In the first round yesterday she led the field with 76, and followed that with 78 today for a total of 154. For the Blugolds, Katie Maurer (Fr.-Forest Lake, Minn./Convent of the Visitation) had a good second day with 79 strokes. Combined with her 84 yesterday, she finished with 163 and tied for 14th overall. Torie Ives (Jr.-Osseo, Wis./Osseo-Fairchild) improved seven strokes over day one, shooting 81 today, and finished with 169 strokes to tie for 27th place. Emily Swift (Onalaska, Wis.), who led the Blugolds in the first round, ended with 170 strokes, and tied for 31st overall. Lauren Gault (Fr.-Shorewood, Wis.) tied for 33rd place, finishing with 171 strokes, while Lea Jondal (Fr.-Somerset, Wis./Cretin-Derham Hall) shot 179 for 51st place overall. Up next the Blugolds will head to Ham Lake, Minn. for the Midwest Classic. The first round of the tournament will take place next Saturday, while the final round is Sunday. - KM - |
