Soccer Set For Home Opener
Posted: Friday, September 5, 2008
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - The UW-Eau Claire soccer team will take the field at 1 p.m. Saturday in its 2008 home opener against Augsburg College (Minn.) at the Bollinger Fields.
The Blugolds, who are coming off at trip to Texas where they went 1-0-1 against two ranked opponents, were recently picked to win their fourth consecutive Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title by the league's sports information directors.
This weekend's game against the Auggies is the 12th meeting between the two teams all-time. The Blugolds have never lost to Augsburg, holding a 9-0-2 record. Eau Claire has won the last two contests and has held the Auggies scoreless in those games.
Amy Smith (Sr.-Bloomington, Minn./Thomas Jefferson) currently leads the Blugolds with two goals this year. She was selected as the WIAC Offensive Player of the Week last week for her contributions while the team was in Texas. Allie Rivard (Sr.-Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) has played all 200 minutes in goal for the Blugolds so far. She has seven saves and has allowed three goals.
