Amy Smith Named WIAC Athlete Of The Week

MADISON, Wis. - UW-Eau Claire soccer forward Amy Smith (Sr. -Bloomington, Minn./Thomas Jefferson) has been named the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference player of the week for offense, conference spokesman Matt Stanek announced today.
Smith picked up four points during the weekend as she scored two goals in UW-Eau Claire's matches in San Antonio, Texas to help the team earn a 1-0-1 record against two nationally ranked teams. In Friday's match, Smith scored against No. 18-ranked Hardin-Simmons University (Texas) on a cross from Liz Kooistra as the Blugolds claimed a 1-1 draw against the Cowboys. On Saturday in a 3-2 victory over No. 23-ranked Trinity University (Texas), Smith broke behind the defense after a throw-in and put the ball in the net for her second goal of the season.
