Mon, May 20, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Women's Golf Tied For Fifth At UWEC Invite Posted: Saturday, August 30, 2008 EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - After day one of the UW-Eau Claire Women's Golf Fall Invite at Mill Run Golf Course, the Blugolds are tied for fifth place with 330 strokes. Wartburg College (Iowa) leads the 25-team field with a +25 score of 313. A season ago Wartburg also led following the first round, but ended the invite with a fourth place finish overall. Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.) is one stroke back in second place, while the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) is in third with 318. Leading the 140-golfer field after the first round was Macalester College's Karla Leon, who finished the day with 75 strokes (+3). Waldorf College's Valeria Cogollo and St. Thomas' Laura Heck are tied for second with 76. The Blugolds were led by freshman Lauren Gault (Shorewood, Wis.), who shot a +8 score of 80 to tie for 14th. Emily Swift (Fr.-Onalaska, Wis.) was two strokes behind Gault and tied for 28th, while Jess Spitzer (Fr.-Burlington, Wis.) shot an 83, tied for 37th place. Torie Ives (Jr.-Osseo, Wis./Osseo-Fairchild) and Katie Maurer (Fr.-Forest Lake, Minn./Convent of the Visitation) both shot an 85 today and are tied for 49th. The Blugolds also had a second team competing today. That team had a total of 361 strokes and is tied for 18th place overall. Jamie Hauser (Fr.-Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) led that group of five with 85 strokes. The Blugolds and the rest of the teams will be back on the course Sunday. Golfers will begin teeing off at 8:30 a.m. at Wild Ridge Golf Course in Eau Claire. - KM - |
