Men's Track & Field Announces Team Award Winners

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - UW-Eau Claire men's track and field coach Chip Schneider recently announced the team award winners for the 2008 season.

Thrower Al Oleson (Sr.-Wausau, Wis./West) was named the team's Most Valuable Performer. Oleson earned All-American honors at the 2008 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championship, finishing in fourth place in the hammer throw. Oleson was also the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) champion in the hammer throw and the shot put at this year's WIAC Outdoor Championship.

Long and triple jumper Logan Koerten (Fr.-Plover, Wis./SPASH) earned the Newcomer of the year award. At the WIAC Indoor Championship, Koerten took second place in the long jump and 15th place in the triple jump. At the WIAC Outdoor Championship he finished second in the long jump, missing first place by less than four inches, and 12th in the triple jump.

Josh Boehm (Sr.-Mosinee, Wis.) was presented with the Captain Award which is given to the person who is more to the team than just the points.

This year the Blugolds finished with an overall record of 135-130-7, and took sixth at both the WIAC Indoor and Outdoor Championships.
