Head coach Leslie Huntington, who is in her seventh season with the Blugolds, along with Robin Baker and Billie Buss, led the Blugolds to their first national title and finished with a 36-11 mark. While the Blugolds finished third in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) for the season and in the conference tournament, they received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament. The team then proceeded to sweep the regionals, going 4-0, and again went 4-0 at nationals in Salem, Virginia to take home the national title. To complete their 8-0 run in NCAA postseason play, the Blugolds had to face WIAC rival UW-Whitewater in the championship game, which went in to nine innings and was capped by a walk-off homerun by senior Jill Janke. This season was the third consecutive season Huntington and her staff led her squad to the regional tournament and second straight season the team advanced to the national championship in Salem. - KM - |
