Wed, May 22, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Johnson Receives Second Team Academic All-America Honors Posted: Monday, June 23, 2008 EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - UW-Eau Claire men's track and field member Sam Johnson (Jr. -Deer Park, Wis./Amery) has received College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA)/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America Men's Track and Field/Cross Country Second Team College Division honors, officials announced today. With the selection, Johnson becomes the 24th individual in school history to be selected as a CoSIDA Academic All-American and only the second in men's track and field history. The entire Blugold Athletics program has now had at least one CoSIDA Academic All-American selection in each of the last nine seasons, dating back to the 1999-2000 season. Johnson, who is majoring in Physics and currently holds a 3.93 cumulative GPA, finished in sixth place at NCAA Division III Indoor Championship in the weight throw with a distance of 59-4 - this season. He had the longest throw in conference and fifth longest in NCAA Division III with distance of 59-8 - heading into the national meet. Johnson was also named conference athlete of the week once during the indoor season. - KM - |
