Women's Track & Field Is Runnerup At Oshkosh Invite Posted: Saturday, April 5, 2008 OSHKOSH, Wis. - The UW-Eau Claire women's track team placed second out of 14 teams on Saturday afternoon at The UW-Oshkosh Invite. The Blugolds came in a distance second to the host school, UW-Oshkosh. Oshkosh won the event with 219.5 points. The Blugolds came in at second with 161.66 points. Trailing the Blugolds was Winona State University (Minn.) in third with114 points, UW-Whitewater in fourth with 94.5 points, and UW-Stevens Point in fifth with 84 points. On the track side of the competition, Liz Kooistra (Jr.-Lakeville, MN) took first place in the 200-meter dash. Kooistra finished with a time of 25.81 seconds in the finals. Kooistra's teammate Hannah Humbach (So.-Madison, WI/Abundant Life) turned in a good performance as well finishing with a time of 4:53.55 in the final run of the 1500-meter run. Humbach's reward was a second place finish. In addition to Humbach's and Kooistra's efforts, Liz Faller earned the Blugolds ten points with her first place finish in the 100-meter hurdles. Faller and Kooistra were also a part of the 4 x 400-meter relay team which took first. Perhaps the most impressive accomplishment of the day belonged to Elly Prunty (So.-Antigo, WI), Molly Warner (Sr.-Mosinee, WI), and Claudia Borlee (Sr.-Green Bay, WI/Preble). The Trio of Blugolds managed to finish first, second, and third respectively in the 5000-meter run. Prunty finished with a time of 18:21.43, Warner with a time of 18:31.07, and Borlee 18:32.72. Together the trio's impressive domination earned the Blugolds 25 points. Points were not as easy to come by in the field competition for the Blugolds. The highest any Blugold finished in a field competition was third. Hayley Suckow (So.-Elk Mound, WI), Amy Oldenburg (So.-WI/Lakeland Union), and Amy Morse (Jr.-Kaukauna, WI) all finished third in their respective events. Suckow's third place finish came in the pole vault, Oldenburg's came in the triple jump, and Morse's in the discus throw. The UW-Eau Claire women's track and field team will return to competition next Saturday when they host the Eau Claire Open. The competition is set to start at 10 a.m. - TT - |
